Robotics Club Information

H.I.S. Robotics Club is a club for students of Hilo Intermediate.  We invite other teams to work and learn along with us, contact Mrs. Fong.

We have a teacher sponsor and community professionals who ALL volunteer their time for this after-school extracurricular activity.  It is supported by fundraising, donations (financial & in-kind), and grants.  We are not part of the H.I.S. Kaanuu Afterschool Program.  This year, a maximum of 20 students will be selected from students who apply to participate.  Commitment is required and expected - it is important for our students to commit and follow through for positive growth and learning experiences.

Our focus is on ROV Technology and engaging students in the S.T.E.M. areas.  It is more about learning the basic foundations of technology and using appropriately.

Most importantly, we are a SERVICE ORGANIZATION.  It is important for our youth to be able to share and know that they can provide community service with technical know-how.  This aligns wells with the Middle School Philosophy and are glad to embrace this learning opportunity.  It is vital that we share with the community that so graciously supports us and helps our students to learn more about S.T.E.M. areas.

We hope in the long-run, it will provide a positive community change socially and economically.  The competitions we compete in are, as the cliche' goes, "icing on the cake".  Learning, sharing, and working together is our focus!

This year, the Hilo High School ROV Robotics Team will be coming back to work and learn side-by-side with our students and provide positive mentoring plus the connection to the opportunities available at the high school level.  Welcome Back!

SAFETY COMES FIRST!

SAFETY:  All students, advisors, mentors and visitors will act in a safe manner at all times and wear appropriate safety gear.

Acting and Using SAFE practices is ALL IMPORTANT

ALL students, advisors/mentors, and visitors will wear appropriate safety gear:
   1.  Closed-Toed Shoes
   2.  Safety Glasses
   3.  Reasonable clothing
   4.  Ear plugs and gloves when needed or appropriate.

We have lockers in the workshop for you to keep shoes, change of clothes, your own personal safety glasses and equipment.  Bring a combination lock (provide combination to Mrs. Fong for safe keeping).

Safety Instruction:
All students are required to attend safety instruction and pass a general safety Exam (minimum passing score 80%).

SAFETY CONTRACT:  Upon successful passing of safety exam, students will be given a Safety Contract that must be signed by the student and parent/guardian prior to being allowed to use equipment in the workshop.

Certain equipment  and tools require additional training and has restrictions according to HI-DOE rules in which certified personnel must be present.  We follow those rules - no exceptions.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Failure to follow safety rules or act safely is grounds for immediate removal from the H.I.S. Robotics Club.
